The Vice President of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia, announced on Wednesday that taxi services in the Greater Accra Region would soon transition to a digital platform, similar to those used by Uber and Bolt.
This move would allow the public to access their services from any location in the region.
According to the Vice President, this transition to a “Tap and Go” system would be accessible with oyster cards and would be implemented by the end of the year.
The aim is to provide a practical solution to the current transport problems faced in the region.
During his speech at the opening of the 46th Session of the General Council Meeting of the Church of Pentecost, Gomoa-Fetteh, in the Central Region, the Vice President also encouraged politicians to focus on finding solutions rather than engaging in insults and propaganda.
He commended the Church of Pentecost for their initiative in organizing a meeting between the church and politicians in June 2023.
Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, gave a report on the “State of the Church” during the meeting.
He expressed disappointment over the nationwide outbreak of cocoa disease, which hindered the growth of the church in cocoa-growing areas. He called on area heads and district ministers to devise measures to address these challenges.
Despite this setback, the church recorded a membership growth of 7.9% during his five-year stewardship, representing a total membership of 3,597,955 as of December 2022.
