I cried myself to sleep due to harsh criticisms as an upcoming artist – Malcom Nuna

Musician Malcolm Nunana Hehetror, popularly known as Malcolm Nuna, recently opened up about the emotional challenges he faced early in his music career. Despite being crowned the Next Rated Artiste at the 2021 3Music Awards, Malcolm revealed that he often cried himself to sleep due to harsh criticism, hate speech, and trolling on social media.

In an interview with MzGee on Just Being Us, the ‘Money Man’ hitmaker recounted how these negative comments deeply affected him. “There were nights when I’d see something online that hurt me and think, ‘I’m just a kid. Why do people hate me like this? They don’t even know me,’” he shared.

These experiences led Malcolm to question the authenticity of the music industry and the treatment of emerging artists. “I wondered, is this really how the world works? Is this what Ghana’s music industry is like? Is this how young musicians are treated?” he reflected. Despite the unfairness, he concluded, “Not everyone will like you or your work, so I just decided to be myself.”

Malcolm Nuna, who is preparing to release a new EP next month, already boasts a 17-track album titled ‘Hasta La Vista.’ The album features collaborations with artists like Larusso, Dead Peepol, Fameye, Tulenkey, Kofi Mole, and Yaw Tog, with notable tracks including Blind Love, Money Man, Baba, Spintex Life, and Party.

Joining Malcolm Nuna on Just Being Us were fellow musicians Kofi Jamar, Yaw Tog, and Kweku Flick. The group discussed their rapid rise to fame during the COVID era and their strategies for maintaining their popularity. These young artists have been celebrated as new stars, earning awards both locally and within the Ghanaian diaspora.
