Ramsdale signs new long-term deal with Arsenal

Arsenal’s goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, has committed his future to the club by signing a lucrative long-term contract extension.

The 24-year-old England international, who joined the Gunners from Sheffield United in August 2021, has already made an impressive 76 appearances for the team.

Despite having two years left on his existing contract, Ramsdale’s outstanding performances throughout the season under manager Mikel Arteta have earned him a new deal with Arsenal, solidifying his position as the team’s number one goalkeeper.

Ramsdale said: “It’s a huge amount of pride, it’s something you work for.

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve been at the club for a month or for four years, you always want to get the next [contract] and push on with the team.

“To get it after two years, I’m buzzing. It just means I can concentrate and keep my head down and hopefully after a few more years I’ll get another one and carry on living the dream at the football club.

“As soon as you put that Arsenal shirt on, they [fans] will give you every chance to try and perform. I knew I could win them over at some point — and thankfully I did that quite early really.”

Arteta added: “We’re all so happy that Aaron has signed a new contract.

“The way Aaron has developed over the past two years has been exceptional, with his performances, contribution and overall adaptation to the club.

“It’s great that we’re continuing to build our future with our biggest talents in our young squad. We’re all looking forward to enjoying many more years of Aaron the player and the person at the football club.”

In 36 Premier League appearances for the North Londoners this term, Ramsdale has kept 13 clean sheets — only David de Gea (16) and Alisson (14) have recorded more.

His performances at the Emirates have earned the former Bournemouth stopper three caps for the Three Lions, keeping clean sheets against San Marino and Italy.
