Piers Morgan heavily criticized Arsenal for their dismal showing against Brighton on Sunday, describing it as a “lacklustre, passion-devoid, spiritless, and pathetic performance.”
The team suffered a significant setback, succumbing to a 3-0 defeat on their home turf.
As a result, there is a possibility that Manchester City might secure the Premier League title in the upcoming weekend.
Morgan’s scathing assessment reflects the disappointment and frustration felt by many Arsenal supporters.
The team’s lack of energy, motivation, and determination on the field was evident throughout the match against Brighton.
Their inability to create meaningful chances and convert them into goals was particularly glaring.
The defeat dealt a blow to Arsenal’s hopes of climbing the league table and securing European qualification for the next season.
Despite Arsenal having topped the table for most of the season, City can win a fifth title in six seasons with victory against Chelsea on Sunday.
The Gunners could even hand City the title without having to play, with a defeat at Nottingham Forest a day earlier.
And Arsenal-mad Piers was not happy with what he saw in the 3-0 loss at home to the Seagulls.
A feisty match was settled by three second-half goals from Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav, and Pervis Estupinan.
Taking to Twitter following the defeat, Morgan fumed that the Gunners had “choked” after leading the way for the majority of the campaign.
He blasted: “All over.
“Totally outplayed by a team that just lost 1-5 to Everton.
“A horribly lacklustre, passion-devoid, spiritless, pathetic performance that cements an inexplicably dismal run-in to a season which promised so much.
“Bottom line: we choked. #afc.”
An ill-tempered encounter saw Gabriel Martinelli flatten Kaoru Mitoma in the early stages but escape without a booking.
Moises Caicedo then wiped out Martinelli just minutes later, before proceeding to slap hands with Mitoma.
Again, referee Andy Madley did not show a yellow card.
Martinelli was injured by the tackle and forced to come off, and later reappeared with his left foot in a protective boot.
The consequence of this defeat extends beyond Arsenal’s own aspirations. Manchester City, who currently lead the Premier League standings, could potentially secure the title in the upcoming weekend.
Any points dropped by their closest rivals, Manchester United, would aid City’s cause.
Arsenal’s lackluster performance against Brighton has inadvertently increased the likelihood of City’s championship triumph.
For Arsenal, the defeat against Brighton serves as a wake-up call and highlights the pressing need for improvement.
The team will have to address issues related to their overall performance, including their defensive frailties, midfield creativity, and forward line effectiveness.
Managerial decisions and strategies will also come under scrutiny, with questions raised about squad selection, tactics, and player motivation.
