The government will employ 8000 teachers to close the gap created by the expansion of the Free Senior High school program.
President Nana Akufo-Akufo who said this in Hohoe also revealed that the Free Senior High School Programme would see an increased enrolment, twice number it had last year.
He explained that this is to ensure, every Ghanaian child enjoys the quality and affordable education to at least the secondary school level.
He was speaking in Hohoe as part of his three-day tour of the Volta Region.
To ensure that the additional numbers in the schools are catered for in the schools, the President hinted that the government would employ an additional 8,000 teachers.
“Last academic year, 90, 000 more Ghanaian youth entered senior high school than the year before. And this year it is going to be doubled; 18,000 students would be enrolled than the year before. We are employing 8,000 more teachers in order to take care of the population,†he said.
Adding that the program was in fulfillment of his campaign promise to the people, President Akufo-Addo insisted that every boy or girl in the country a well refined human resource is key to the growth of the economy and lives of the citizens.
The Free Senior High School Program is one of the flagship programs by the current government to provide secondary education to school children free of charge.
