Tramadol abuse: Man climbs MTN mast; threatens to kill rescuers

Residents in Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region were thrown into a state of shock when a young man identified as Solomon Tetteh, fully dressed in military uniform was spotted at the upper part of an MTN Telecom mast misbehaving and threatening to violently crush anyone who attempts to rescue him.

Some residents who trooped to the scene near the Ghana Revenue Authority office Sunday evening described the action of the suspect as suicidal.

Some residents also claim that the suspect was high on tramadol.

It took the intervention of a joint rescue team of Police, Fire Service and some residents to struggle with the suspect for several minutes before they successfully brought him down.

Tetteh Emmanuel, an eyewitness and a local Journalist in the Community told Starr News that it was the second time young man had behaved in such a manner. According to him, they suspect the young man is mentally challenged due to tramadol abuse.

“What we have been told is that he is mentally challenged and also this was his second attempt climbing to the top of the network towers in the area. He has been dressing like a military personnel, it is not clear if he was a soldier.”

The suspect is in the custody of Odumase Police assisting with investigation.

Drug abuse including tramadol is said to be reaching alarming rate among the youth at Lower Manya Municipality.

The situation has been linked to increasing mental related illness among the youth.
