The smallest dam under ‘One Village, One Dam’ to cost GHC 2.5m

Minister of Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has disclosed to Parliament that the smallest dam in the “One Village, One Dam” policy will cost GHS 2.5m. Briefing Parliament on steps taken by government to construct the dams he said the costs for the dams vary in sizes but the smallest dam in the project will cost GHS 2.5m.

“I have said here…that the smallest dam will cost 2.5 million cedis.”

The One-Village-One-Dam policy is one of government’s flagship programmes aimed at ensuring all year-round agriculture in the three regions of the north, through the construction of irrigation dams in every village in that part of the country.

According to Dr. Afriyie-Akoto, out of 560 locations identified, 311 have been selected for construction.

But Minority MP for Bawku Central Mahama Ayariga believes the cost being quoted for the smallest dam in the project by the sector minister cannot be true.
