The best and worst of Ghanaian players abroad

Too Bad: Nicholas Opoku – Given a glorious chance to impress against big boys Juventus after losing his starting place in Udinese’s set-up, the 21-year-old’s biggest moment as a 25th-minute substitute was giving away a penalty in what ended in a 4-1 defeat for his side in the Italian Serie A on Friday. He joined The Little Zebras last summer.

Bad: Christian Atsu – The winter arrival of Miguel Almiron has no doubt pushed the Ghanaian from Newcastle United’s starting team to the bench in recent games. But worryingly, the 27-year-old was not even on the bench on Saturday as The Magpies came from behind to register a 3-2 home win over Everton in the Premier League.

Good: Sulley Muntari – Eleven months since he last played competitively, the 34-year-old made his debut for new club Albacete as an 84th-minute substitute in a 1-0 away loss to Gimnastic Tarragona in the Spanish second tier on Saturday.

Too Good: Dauda Mohammed – On his third league start for new club Vitesse Arnhem, the on-loan Anderlecht striker scored in the 47th minute to help his club snatch a 1-1 home draw against Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday. It was the 21-year-old’s second goal in five total appearances for Vitas.

Good: Kwadwo Asamoah – Largely deployed at left-back with Inter, it was refreshing to see the 30-year-old play in his original midfield position as the Nerazzurri secured a 2-0 home win over SPAL in the Italian Serie A on Sunday. It was a first full game away from the back for the former Juventus man, who joined Inter in the summer.
