Banning small-scale mining is not the solution to galamsey menace – Miracles Aboagye

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 presidential campaign, has expressed strong opposition to any proposed ban on small-scale mining.

Aboagye, speaking on Joy News on September 19, argued that such a ban is politically driven rather than addressing genuine environmental concerns.

He criticized the proposal, suggesting it serves the interests of certain political factions rather than the country as a whole.
“The proposal they are making is not in the interest of the water bodies. They are making it in the interest of their own political affiliation,” he said.

Aboagye pointed out that previous attempts to ban small-scale mining have not been successful in solving the issues associated with it.

“Banning small-scale mining I don’t think is the way to go because, one, we have tried it before and it did not solve the problem.”

He acknowledged the environmental damage caused by illegal mining but insisted that it is unjust to penalize all small-scale miners, many of whom operate legally.

“There are people who are legitimately doing small-scale mining. It has nothing to do with galamsey, then we should go and ban Newmont and ban Gold Fields and Anglo Gold Ashanti and all that? But where Anglo Gold Ashanti and Newmont and co. are mining what has it got to do with the discussions we are having?” he added, “Indeed, our water bodies have been affected, indeed galamsey is destroying the water bodies.”

He also highlighted the economic impact of a ban, noting that it would lead to widespread job losses.

“Do you know what happens when you ban small-scale mining? There are tens of thousands of people who will lose their jobs. If my government bans small-scale mining, I will demonstrate against them.”

Furthermore, Aboagye dismissed calls for the removal of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Jinapor, as a solution to the illegal mining problem, suggesting that such measures would not effectively address the underlying issues.

“Journalists were paid GHS2k and GHS5k” – NPP clarifies

The Director of Communication for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has addressed the payments made to journalists who attended the #BawumiaHostsTheMedia event on August 25, 2024.

He confirmed that journalists were given amounts between GH¢2,000 and GH¢5,000 to support their participation and ensure their comfort during the event.

In a discussion with Fact-Check Ghana, Aboagye refuted rumors circulating on social media that suggested payments ranging from GH¢10,000 to GH¢20,000 were made to journalists and media houses.

He emphasized that the actual payments were significantly lower and were intended solely to facilitate the event’s coverage.

“I haven’t given any GH¢20,000 or GH¢10,000 to any media house. The highest amount of money any media person received was between GH¢ 2,000 and GH¢ 5,000. They are all not the same, some were even bloggers,” he said.

Mr Aboagye explained that journalists from outside Accra received funds to cover transportation and accommodation expenses, countering allegations of bribery.

“Take someone who came from Kumasi or Tamale, for instance, if you give them GH¢5,000 or GH¢7,000 then you [must] add their accommodation and transport to ensure you have covered them,” he added.

Mr Aboagye’s comments address recent social media speculations following the NPP flagbearer’s media interaction.

Meanwhile, Fact-Check Ghana has received confirmations from some journalists that they were paid substantial amounts between GH¢10,000 and GH¢20,000 after the event.

“COPYFESTO” – NPP accuses NDC of copying dozens of their campaign promises

Communications Director for the Dr. Bawumia 2024 presidential campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has sharply criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following their manifesto launch in Winneba on August 24, 2024.

Aboagye took to Facebook the same day, branding the NDC’s manifesto as a “COPYFESTO,” alleging that the party had plagiarized several key ideas from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) previous manifestos.

In his post, which quickly gained traction online, Aboagye accused former President John Mahama and the NDC of repackaging policies from the NPP and presenting them as their own.

He pointed out specific areas where he believed the NDC had lifted ideas, including health, housing, job creation, and the use of Starlink technology to enhance education.

The accusation has sparked a lively debate, with supporters and critics of both parties weighing in on the originality and authenticity of the NDC’s proposals.

Some have echoed Aboagye’s claims, while others have defended the NDC, insisting that their manifesto reflects genuine and innovative solutions for the country.

Fitch or no Fitch, we’re focused on winning election 2024 – Miracles Aboagye

As Ghana’s December 7 general elections approach, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for the Bawumia campaign, has expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will secure a victory despite Fitch Solutions’ forecast favoring the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Aboagye acknowledged the current economic difficulties but highlighted the NPP’s commitment to economic improvement, noting that inflation has decreased from approximately 54% to 23%.

He emphasized that the party is intensifying its campaign efforts, particularly in the northern regions, to persuade voters and demonstrate their dedication to bettering the economic situation.

“As we speak, we are campaigning in the five northern regions.

“Until we get to the polls and ballot in December, we believe that we have a responsibility to ensure that the Ghanaian voter has a reason to vote for us.

“That is what we are doing,” he said.

Fitch Solutions’ prediction suggests that 54% of respondents support the NDC candidate, John Mahama. Fitch analyst Mike Kruiniger pointed out that economic conditions are likely to play a crucial role in the election outcome.

In response to the forecast, NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi welcomed the prediction but cautioned against complacency.

He reiterated the party’s determination to work diligently to achieve a decisive victory and address what he described as issues under the current Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.

Gyamfi emphasized the need for the NDC to stay focused and committed to their campaign strategy.

NAPO is clearly the most experienced political figure – Miracles Aboagye

Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has emphasized Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s remarkable track record, demonstrating his capability to handle assigned duties effectively.

During the Point Blank segment of Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Aboagye lauded Prempeh as the perfect running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“He’s a person with extensive experience and exposure, a goal-getter, results-oriented, and has a track record that proves he delivers when given responsibility. This is the person Dr Mahamudu Bawumia sought as a running mate to execute his vision.

“Moreover, before forming a government, winning an election is crucial. Who can bring substantial political capital to balance him out and boost our numbers? NAPO is clearly the most experienced political figure not just in our party but in the country,” he stated.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, highlighted Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s outstanding track record, showcasing his ability to manage responsibilities efficiently.

  • We will win 2024 elections with logical approach – NPP

We will win 2024 elections with logical approach – NPP

Communication Director for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will approach the 2024 general elections with a logical strategy rather than emotions.

Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Thursday, Mr. Aboagye emphasized that the current administration has outperformed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and deserves the mandate to continue.

“The person who promised you three years out of his four years has given you power for seven years and what you call ‘dumsor’ for ten weeks. Are you saying that you would prefer three years of leadership over seven years of power? Even your child would be worried about you if you made that decision.”

“I am telling you that we are going into this election with logic, not emotions, and not ends. The macroeconomic indicators I mentioned earlier are struggling, and rightly so,” he said.

“Just like the UK is struggling, just like the US is struggling, and just like Ivory Coast and Nigeria, which have the worst currency in the world today. We are trying to get out of it. But it doesn’t mean that we should hand over the country to a government that we know cannot deliver,” he added.

  • There is nothing that Bawumia has lied about – Miracles Aboagye

There is nothing that Bawumia has lied about – Miracles Aboagye

The Communications Director for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has dismissed allegations that the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is dishonest.

During his interview on Asaase Radio in Accra, he argued that the continual assaults from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have led to online algorithms labeling Vice President Bawumia as untruthful, solely based on the frequency of negative content circulating about him.

“What is a lie? If I say for example that if I become President I will build a wall in front of Asaase Radio and I haven’t been able to do it, is it a lie? Is that what will make you call me a liar?

“If that is a lie, then let me tell you, the last time I picked John Mahama’s 2012 manifesto and I looked at it, he had over 1,300 promises that he hasn’t been able to fulfill. Then for us to be able to establish between John Mahama and Bawumia who is a liar we have to pick their manifestos and analyze it,” he said.

Mr Aboagye explained that the internet’s algorithms tend to pick up repeated content, regardless of its accuracy, which has unfairly branded Vice President Bawumia as deceitful.

He asserted that the failure to fulfill every promise outlined in a manifesto does not automatically equate to dishonesty.

Mr Aboagye also drew attention to the fact that if unmet promises were the sole measure of dishonesty, then John Dramani Mahama would surpass Bawumia in that regard based on unfulfilled pledges.

“First of all, apart from the NDC and the opposition political party which is their job, you’ll barely hear any Ghanaian…I think Joy or Multimedia or so did some series on this thing and they realized it was a deliberate orchestration.

“This is the internet, it’s an algorithm, every day as I write Miracles is a thief, it will pop up. Somebody needs to write about 20 articles. There is no fact, there is no evidence, and there is nothing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has lied about.

  • Bawumia’s chances of winning 15 regions are high if December polls are conducted today – Miracles Aboagye

Bawumia’s chances of winning 15 regions are high if December polls are conducted today – Miracles Aboagye

The communications director for the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Campaign team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has expressed confidence in Vice President Bawumia‘s potential to secure victory in 15 out of 16 regions if elections were conducted today.

Aboagye’s assurance stems from Bawumia’s track record of delivering on promises to the electorate, a factor he believes will resonate nationwide.

During an appearance on the Asaase Breakfast Show on May 6, 2024, he underscored the potential for his principal to clinch triumph across the nation’s 38,622 polling stations, emphasizing that Bawumia’s appeal transcends party lines.

“There are some areas that you expect Bawumia to win that he may not win but cumulatively by the time you put 38,622 polling stations, by the time you put it together, Dr Bawumia will win.

“You know why? Because each of these polling stations, has its specific needs and a majority of them, the Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government have met their needs and the rest that they have not been able to meet, they believe that there is hope in Dr Bawumia.

“…In Ghana, it has been proven that you can win eight out of 10 regions. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia can win all the regions except the Volta Region,” he added.

  • Ignorance! You misinterpreted Bawumia’s ‘driver’s mate’ comment – Miracles Aboagye to Prof. Naana Jane

Ignorance! You misinterpreted Bawumia’s ‘driver’s mate’ comment – Miracles Aboagye to Prof. Naana Jane

Director of Communications for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has stated that Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate for John Mahama, misunderstood Dr. Bawumia’s analogy about being a “driver’s mate.”

Dr. Bawumia, upon his nomination as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), likened his role as Vice President to that of a driver’s mate.

This analogy emphasized his dedication to implementing his vision and priorities if elected President in the upcoming December elections.

“As Vice President, I am like a driver’s mate. But if by the Grace of God, you make me president, I will be in the driver’s seat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities,” he said.

During her unveiling in Accra on Wednesday, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang vowed loyalty to Mr. Mahama, asserting that she would not forsake him in challenging times and would not describe her role as merely that of a driver’s mate.

“I will not in advancement of self-seeking ambition, declare to the world that I was only the driver’s mate,” she stated.

Mr. Aboagye maintains that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang misunderstood Dr. Bawumia’s analogy, which was intended to convey his potential for superior performance as President.

He emphasized the significance of context in comprehending the Vice President’s statement.

Mr Aboagye described Dr Bawumia’s use of the “driver’s mate” analogy as a “simile” which people have failed to understand.”

“I think the difficulty rather is the complete lack of understanding and ignorance on the part of the running mate of the NDC. In an attempt trying to jab she forgot where she was standing and took herself out of context…There is nowhere in the Vice President’s speech, did he ever say that he is describing himself as a driver’s mate only because the government has encountered challenges.”

“The person with the difficulty is the running mate of John Mahama who has completely taken herself out of context in an attempt to throw unnecessary jab…It was clear it was unambiguous it was contextual; it was an analogy and that analogy was best fit for the statement that he delivered,” he stated on Citi FM.

  • I don’t support gayism, women are the reason we politicians are still alive! – Miracles Aboagye

I don’t support gayism, women are the reason we politicians are still alive! – Miracles Aboagye

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has faced scrutiny over its stance on LGBTQ+ rights, particularly following President Nana Akufo-Addo’s reluctance to take a clear position on the matter.

This ambiguity was highlighted during Vice President Kamala Harris’s visit to Ghana, where President Akufo-Addo refrained from commenting on the anti-LGBTQ+ bill before parliament.

His recent decision not to sign the bill, despite its passage, citing pending Supreme Court cases, has further fuelled the debate.

In an attempt to dispel rumours of the NPP being pro-LGBTQ, Mr Aboagye, contributing to the discussion on the Bill on TV3 (March 23, 2024), vehemently denied any such tendencies within his party, using his personal beliefs as an example.

“I do not support anybody engaging in gayism. I am not gay. I love women. Honourable Rockson Dafeamepkor and I, we love women. We love women. Women are beautiful. We love women! To suggest that I support gayism. Do you know how much women mean to me? Do you know how much I admire and appreciate women for the things that they bring to us as men?”

According to him, politicians face many forms of stressful situations throughout the day, including receiving phone calls from constituents and subordinates even late into the night. Mr Aboagye believes women are the only reason, politicians are able to survive such stress.

“Honourable Rockson Dafeamepkor and I, as politicians, do you know the stress we go through from morning till evening? Even at midnight? You are sleeping at 1:00 AM and receiving phone calls from constituents. The only thing in this world that calms our nerves and reduces our stress and ensures that all these things do not knock us out of the world earlier than God has given us, is women!”

Vice President Bawumia has been accused of remaining silent on the anti-LGBT+ Bill, which has been in the headlines since Parliament unanimously passed it.

Mr Aboagye’s comments have sparked discussions on what this could mean for Bawumia’s campaign, as they suggest a departure from the party’s perceived ambiguity and could potentially signal a more definitive approach to the LGBTQ+ rights debate within the NPP’s ranks.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) finds itself entangled in a web of silence and revelation regarding its position on LGBTQ rights. As the political landscape heats up, key players have remained cryptic, leaving room for speculation and intrigue.

“Ablakwa is always distracting conversations on national issues with unnecessary finger pointing” – Presidential staffer

Presidential staffer, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has responded to accusations from Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, asserting that the MP is prone to exaggeration and overpoliticization of national matters.

Ablakwa, on Monday, January 29, 2023, disclosed details indicating that the government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association, allocated $8.5 million for Ghana’s participation in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

In his reaction to the MP’s revelation, Miracles Aboagye accused Ablakwa of diverting attention from the broader issue of the Black Stars’ consistent failures.

He alleged that Ablakwa was exaggerating the team’s budget while overlooking the fact that previous governments had allocated similar amounts with less favorable outcomes for the team.

“Anytime we have to deal with a national issue nooor then he will come and spoil it with the Drama , exaggerations and partisanship.

“Was he not in there when his Government transported $3Million Dollars in Cash in an aeroplane to Black Stars Players in Brazil.

“Was it not in 2014 that Black Stars players were kissing Hard dollar currency in Brazil? We are all trying to work together to deal with a national issue, let him not distract the conversation with his unnecessary finger pointing,” he wrote.

The presidential staffer continued by pointing out that during a period of severe power outages in 2013, the Ghanaian government, then led by the National Democratic Congress, approved a budget of $15 million for the country’s participation in the AFCON.

“In 2013 when his government approved $15million Dollars for AFCON, we had Dumsor and all we needed was money to buy fuel. At the 2013 AFCON, the prize money was $1.5Million Dollars.

“He should leave us to deal with our football issues without splitting our heads. Check the trend of Expenses over the party 5 AFCONS,” he stated referring to an artwork accompanying his post.

Investigations by the media reveals that the speculated expense of US$15 million for the 2013 budget is, at best, unfounded. Our sources indicate that only US$8 million was both budgeted and subsequently disbursed.

Ghana’s performance in the 2023 AFCON was disappointing, with the country exiting the ongoing tournament during the group stage with only two points.

In the midst of controversy surrounding the team’s coach, Mr. Ablakwa made the expenditure revelation on Monday, accusing the government, FA, and the sports ministry of corruption and financial mismanagement.

Leading up to the tournament, the Ministry of Youth and Sports had refrained from disclosing the budget allocation for the Black Stars’ participation in the AFCON.

NPP’s flagbearer will be determined at Saturday’s Super Delegates Conference – Miracles Aboagye

A key member within Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has emphasized that the winner of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) special delegates’ conference will likely secure success in the impending primaries scheduled for November.

During an interview with the media, Mr Aboagye shared his perspective that the NPP’s historical pattern indicates a correlation between victory in the special delegates’ conference and triumph in the primaries.

Aboagye added, “The way our party is structured, whoever wins Saturday’s election will win the November primaries,” he stated, adding that “Dr Bawumia will win that election on Saturday by not less than 70 percent votes.”

He passionately called upon all dedicated NPP supporters to rally behind his superior, emphasizing that Dr. Bawumia symbolizes the party’s aspiration and holds the potential to shape the nation’s future.

Furthermore, Aboagye urged all delegates participating in the forthcoming special delegates’ conference, taking place at the regional level, to cast their votes in favor of the vice president.

This, he contended, would ensure the NPP’s triumph in the 2024 elections.

The NPP has organized this weekend’s special delegates’ conference with the aim of narrowing down the field of flagbearer contenders from ten to five, a strategic move in their preparations for the upcoming electoral campaign.

Govt sought help from BoG in only 2020 and 2022 – Miracle Aboagye discloses

Director of Local Government Services at the Office of the President, Dennis Miracles Aboagye,  has disclosed that the government’s outreach to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for assistance was confined to the years 2020 and 2022.

Speaking in an interview, he noted that this move represented a strategic approach to addressing specific financial challenges during those periods, until COVID-19 hit the shores of the country.

“Whatever is happening today stems from issues arising from 2020 till date as earlier stated by the government.

“Government did not borrow from the bank in 2017, 2018, 2019, it was in 2020 during COVID that the government sought assistance from the Apex Bank. In 2021, the government did not go there but in 2022, the government went there.

He further stressed that this confirms the government’s claim that Ghana’s economy was doing well until COVID-19 struck.

“And this basically comes to confirm the long standing position of the government that Ghana’s Economy was doing very very well and was on a growth path between 2017 and 2019 until COVID arrived,” he added.

Miracles Aboagye provides breakdown of workers at the presidency

The Director of Local Government Services at the Office of the President, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has dismissed reports that there are over 1000 political appointees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (presidential staffers) at the Office of the President.

According to him, the majority of the workers at the presidency are public servants who were not appointed by the president.

Miracles Aboagye, who made these remarks in a Peace FM interview, added that he is one of only 337 political appointees at the presidency.

He explained that people are saying there are about 1,000 presidential staffers because they think everybody who works at the presidency is a political appointee.

“It is never true. It’s false. It is a complete falsehood. It’s a lie. There are no 1000 presidential staffers at the Jubilee House… not everybody that works at the Office of the President is a presidential staffer.

“When you look at the Act that sets up the Office of the President and staffing, we have a category of staff we call presidential staffers. We have technical people, executive assistants, presidential aides, and so forth,” he said in Twi.

He added that 995 people currently work at the Jubilee House, and only 337 of these people are political appointees.

We went on to list the category of people who are now working at the presidency.

    1. Minister of State at the Presidency – 1

    2. Presidential Staffers – 45

    3. Other political appointees – 291

These appointees include the Chief Executive Officers of entities such as the National Investment Bank (NIB), MASLOC, National Identification Authority (NIA), and Scholarship Secretariat as well as other workers of entities which are under the Office of the President.

    4. Public sector employees – 658

These people are gardeners, cleaners, accounts, internal auditors, chief directors, investigators and other public servants under the various departments including the protocol unit, records unit, senior assistant computer programmers, secretarial staff, supply and material management class.

  • 127 1D1F factories are operational – Presidential Staffer

According to Presidential Staffer Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration was able to construct 127 factories that are currently in use.

He said that as part of the government’s flagship One District – One Factory (1D1F) plan, the government collaborated with a few private firms to create the 127 factories.

“We have people who have been supported in the private sector to ensure that their businesses thrive, and we are spending about a billion dollars every year to keep energy on,” Miracles Aboagye on Accra-based TV3 said. “We have at least 127 factories that are operational and others that are being built.”

Touching on road construction under the Akufo-Addo-led government, the NPP member noted that more roads have been under the government than any other in Ghana’s history.

Describing it as unprecedented, Miracles Aboagye said this forms part of the projects done out of the loans that have been contracted.

“Unprecedented, no government within a period of four or five years have been able to tar the number of kilometres of roads that we have tarred, over 3600killiometrs of roads that we have tarred,” he said.

Adding, “NDC came, they picked our debt from 9 billion to almost about 122 billion. We, admittedly, have moved it from 122 billion to 400 billion or whatever, but we have things to show for it.”

  • It is not Akufo-Addo’s job to apologise to Ghanaians – Presidential Staffer

A Presidential Staffer, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has said it is not Akufo-Addo’s job to apologise to Ghanaians for the current economic crisis the country is facing.

According to him, the duty of the president is to take Ghanaians out of the economic crisis the country is facing rather than apologise.

His comment comes on the back of calls by some Ghanaians on social media who have raised concerns over Akufo-Addo’s failure to apologise to Ghanaians for the current economic crisis including IMF bailout after he vehemently spoke against it.

After his address on the economy on October 30, some social media users including ace broadcaster, Nana Aba Anamoah, raised questions after the address on Twitter with the caption “No apology. No acceptance of responsibility. Nothing, absolutely nothing!”

Speaking on the Big Issue on TV3, the host quizzed why the president did not apologise to Ghanaians after Ghana went to IMF, Miracles Aboagye responded “apology for what?”

He continued “I need to clarify this, when as speak I speak as a Ghanaian, when I say the people and you also say the people whose words are you taking? Is it not all of us. The president’s job is not to come to us and come and be crying and apologising to us. The president job is to find a way out of the situation for us”.
