Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Dutch forward Xavi Simons has been put on hold as the player has decided to extend his loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain for another season.
RB Leipzig confirmed the news on Monday, stating, “Speculation surrounding Xavi’s future can finally be put to rest.” The club announced that the 21-year-old would undergo a medical examination on Monday, followed by individual training before joining the team on Tuesday.
Bayern Munich had openly expressed their interest in Simons after his impressive performance for the Netherlands at Euro 2024.
“He has everything, including mentality and character. An exceptionally good player,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said last month.
Simons, who has earned 20 caps for the Netherlands, tallied 10 goals and 15 assists in 43 appearances for Leipzig last season.
The club announced that he will wear the No. 10 jersey for the upcoming campaign.
