Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has expressed confidence in the Black Stars and urged Ghanaians to support the team
After participation in 2006, 2010, and 2014, the Black Stars are scheduled to participate in the tournament for the fourth time in their existence.
“I really have faith in the coaches and believe they are capable of reaching an appreciable position at the Mundial” Nunoo Mensah said.
“We need the support of every Ghanaian to bring back the love and push the Black Stars forward, I know the winning spirit is back, I feel and know it,”
“Ghana can do it when least is expected,”
“Like in 2019 when we conquered the world at the youth stage, we can do it again at the senior level,”
On November 17, when Ghana defeated Switzerland 2-0, skipper Andre Ayew, who plays for Al Sadd in the Qatar Stars League, earned his 110th appearance for the national team. The former Swansea City attacker became the most capped player in the history of Ghana.
The 32-year-old surpassed the previous record of 109 held by Asamoah Gyan.
The Ghana contingent landed in Qatar in grand style, they were given a rousing welcome by Ghanaians. The players wore traditional smocks and hats.
The Black Stars of Ghana is in Group H alongside Uruguay, Portugal, and South Korea. Ghana will play Portugal on 24th November at the Stadium 974, South Korea on 28th November at the Education City Stadium, and play their final group game against Uruguay on 2nd December at the Al Janoub Stadium.
