Thomas Partey and Abdul Samed set to go head-to-head in UEFA Champions League

During the draw for the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League on August 31, English club Arsenal was placed in group B alongside French team RC Lens, Spanish outfit Sevilla, and PSV Eindhoven from the Netherlands, which will however, see the group stage clash between Arsenal and RC Lens feature two notable Ghanaian players, Thomas Partey from Arsenal and Abdul Salis Ahmed from RC Lens, making it a matchup to watch in the UEFA Champions League.

Partey, with previous Champions League experience during his time with Atletico Madrid, will bring his seasoned skills to the competition.

In contrast, it will be the inaugural Champions League campaign for Salis and RC Lens, who finished as runners-up in the 2022/23 French Ligue 1.

Partey, aged 30, made 33 appearances for Arsenal last season, scoring three goals, and has already participated in all three games for Mikel Arteta’s side in the current season.

Meanwhile, Salis, aged 23, appeared in 33 games for Lens last season and netted a goal.

Despite currently nursing an injury after featuring in three matches for Lens, Salis is expected to make a return ahead of their Champions League clash, which is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
