Ghanaian international Inaki Williams disclosed that in Spain, individuals with wealth are less likely to encounter racism.
He made these revelations in an interview with ESPN’s Bicycle Diaries program.
Nevertheless, the situation is markedly different for those who are economically disadvantaged and striving to make a living. Williams, who plays for the Black Stars, emphasised that despite his black ethnicity, his financial status shields him from being treated differently due to his wealth.
“In Spain, I think that people are elitist. If you have a lot of money like I do, they don’t look at your skin colour but if you are a street vendor, they do” Inaki Williams said.
Regarding the racism experienced by Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. during the previous season, the Ghanaian striker expressed his desire for all Los Blancos players to have collectively left the field in response.
“I would have appreciated it if all the Real Madrid players walked off and the game had been stopped,” Inaki Williams, who suffered racism in 2020 in a La Liga game at Espanyol, said.
