Make Nii Lante Vanderpuye the Sports Minister – Ahlaji Grusah urges Mahama

Owner of King Faisal Football Club, Alhaji Karim Grusah, has suggested that President John Mahama appoint former Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye to lead the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

President Mahama, during his campaign, promised to improve sports in Ghana by introducing a National Sports Policy. This policy aims to boost the country’s sports reputation by focusing on better facilities, developing talent, improving management, and ensuring inclusivity while using sports to drive economic and social growth.

Speaking to Asempa FM, Grusah praised Vanderpuye’s experience and believes he is the right person to lead these improvements.

“Nii Lante Vanderpuye has already proven his capabilities, so I’m puzzled about what the NDC is waiting for. I recall that even under the NPP, former President Kufuor considered appointing him as Sports Minister, but internal party unrest prevented it,” Grusah stated.

“Given his track record, I firmly believe Vanderpuye is the right person to revitalize Ghana’s football scene. His experience working with Liberty Professionals and Hearts of Oak, coupled with his background as a sports journalist, make him the ideal candidate.

Since the NDC have returned to power, they should bring him back on board to address Ghana’s football challenges,” he added.

President Mahama has not yet chosen a new Sports Minister, but several well-known figures are being considered for the position.

These include former Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye, ex-Asante Kotoko CEO Herbert Mensah, and Buem MP Kofi Adams.

They are being mentioned as possible replacements for the former Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif.
