Mahama promises to pay Ghana Premier League players stipends when elected

Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has pledged that his administration will guarantee stipends for players in the Ghana Premier League.

In recent times, the absence of financial compensation for players in the Ghana Premier League has driven many to leave the domestic league for better-paying opportunities abroad.

Former President Mahama has vowed that the NDC will tackle this problem by offering stipends to players in the local league.

“I would also like to assure the sports community that we will improve our stadium infrastructure for track and field sports, upgrade our deteriorating pitches, and provide stipends to footballers in the Premier League,” he stated.

At the Media Encounter on Sunday, July 7, 2024, John Dramani Mahama expressed his views on the matter.

He stated, “We will give equal attention to what we consider to be the least-funded sports, just as we have done for soccer.”

The NDC first made this commitment in 2020, promising to provide Ghana Premier League players with a monthly salary of GH¢1,500.
