In a Premier League match on a Sunday afternoon, Luis Diaz scored a crucial goal in injury time, salvaging a 1-1 draw for Liverpool against Luton Town.
Diaz, a Colombian forward, came off the bench and headed in a cross from Harvey Elliott in the 95th minute, securing a valuable point for the Reds at Kenilworth Road.
The game witnessed an open start, with both teams exchanging early attempts on goal. Ross Barkley tested Alisson Becker with a shot for Luton, while Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez had an effort saved by Thomas Kaminski. Nunez was unlucky as his subsequent shot hit the crossbar and went over after a well-executed first touch from a Trent Alexander-Arnold pass.
Both Issa Kabore and Mohamed Salah missed scoring opportunities from close range as the end-to-end nature of the match continued. Liverpool gradually gained control as the first half progressed, and a strong run by Ryan Gravenberch created a chance for Diogo Jota, whose shot was saved by Kaminski.
However, it was Luton that had the final opportunity of the first half, with Barkley firing over the crossbar from outside the box after a partially cleared cross.
The second half started with little goalmouth action, but Alisson had to be alert to collect a low cross from Kabore that was just out of reach for Carlton Morris. Alexander-Arnold fired a long-range shot over the bar, and Luton crafted their best chance so far.
Chiedozie Ogbene dribbled past a couple of defenders and entered the box, with the ball eventually reaching Morris, who was denied by Alisson from close range.
Liverpool’s substitutes combined, with Cody Gakpo’s acrobatic attempt narrowly missing the target after a cross from Elliott. Nunez missed a great chance inside the six-yard box after Salah headed a delivery from Alexander-Arnold back across the goal. Nunez then forced a save from Kaminski following a breakaway.
Kaminski made an important save, tipping a bending effort from Gravenberch behind, but Luton’s counter-attack from the resulting corner resulted in the opening goal. Kabore delivered a cross from the right, and Chong poked the ball into the net.
Liverpool showed resilience after falling behind, and Diaz rose above his marker at the back post, nodding the ball beyond Kaminski to level the score at 1-1.
In the final moments of the match, Alisson made a crucial save, denying Kabore to ensure Liverpool left with a share of the points.
