Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole believes that Jadon Sancho may still have a future at the club following the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Sancho’s prospects at Manchester United have been uncertain, particularly after a challenging season.
The winger faced exclusion from the squad under Erik ten Hag’s management and was subsequently loaned out to Borussia Dortmund.
However, his return to the Bundesliga hasn’t been smooth, with criticism from the German media following his recent performance in a 3-2 loss to Hoffenheim.
Despite this, Cole suggests that recent comments made by Sir Jim Ratcliffe regarding Mason Greenwood could indicate a potential opportunity for Sancho to return to Old Trafford.
Cole told BetFred: “Whether he does or doesn’t stay at Manchester United in the long term, the kid is still a very talented player. You can all sit here and say he’s got to get his head right, but I think everyone needs to get their head and mindset right at times.
It’s not worked out for him at the moment at Manchester United, but you just never know what’s going to happen.
“I listened to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s comments the other day regarding Mason Greenwood and how a decision regarding his future will be made in the summer, so it looks like they’re going to go back to that situation and review it, so I believe that Sancho will be in that discussion as well.
Yes, he’s had a tough time, but can they address this problem? If they can’t address this problem, what is the best thing for Jadon Sancho and Manchester United? That’s the way they’ve got to look at things.”
Manchester United, along with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, face significant decisions in the upcoming summer transfer window, particularly concerning Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho.
Greenwood’s reluctance to return to Manchester United has sparked interest from La Liga clubs such as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid during his loan spell at Getafe.
Meanwhile, Sancho’s hopes of making a strong impression back at Dortmund following his United exile have been dampened, with just one assist to his name so far. Dortmund has acknowledged the challenge of securing Sancho on a permanent basis.
Sancho is expected to complete the season with Dortmund before returning to Manchester United. However, his prospects under Erik ten Hag remain uncertain, given his failure to reconcile with the Dutchman.
Nevertheless, there’s a possibility of changes in his situation at the club if Manchester United decides to make coaching alterations in the summer.
