GFA names Frimpong Manso as new Head Coach of the Black Starlets

The Ghana Football Association has named Stephen Frimpong Manso as the new Head Coach of the country’s Under-17 male football team, the Black Starlets.

Manso takes over from Laryea Kingston, who left the position in May 2024 after the team failed to qualify for the 2025 U-17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Currently managing Premier League team Bibiani Gold Stars, Manso brings a wealth of experience to his new position. He has coached several clubs in the past, including Stade d’Abidjan, Asante Kotoko, Karela United, and B.A. United.

Frimpong Manso has a strong background with national teams, having coached the U-17 team from 2009 to 2010 and worked as Assistant Coach for the Black Meteors between 2006 and 2008.

As a player, Manso was known for his solid defensive skills, having played for clubs like Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Al Shabab in Kuwait, and the Ghana senior national team, the Black Stars.

He holds a CAF Licence A Coaching certificate and is highly regarded for his talent in identifying and nurturing young players.

Manso is expected to lead the Black Starlets in future international matches, with the goal of bringing Ghana back to the top in youth football, both in Africa and internationally.

Assistant Coaches Nana Kweku Agyemang and Jacob Nettey will remain in their current positions.
