Footy Legends GH recently hosted its second edition of the “Honouring the Fathers” event, dedicated to paying tribute to retired footballers who devoted their lives to serving the nation on the soccer field.
The event, organised by Footy Legends GH, a group of soccer enthusiasts from the working class, aimed not only to celebrate the past achievements of these soccer legends but also to provide essential support for their well-being and address their daily needs.
During the event, Alfred Nortey, the convener of Footy Legends Ghana, emphasised the importance of Corporate Ghana’s active support for initiatives like these.
He highlighted that such backing could significantly improve the quality of life for retired footballers and acknowledged their lasting impact on Ghanaian football.
“This initiative is to honour them because we realise that, as a nation, we do not do well in honouring our heroes.
This initiative is designed to honour those who have a passion for the game and made us fall in love with the game.”
“We started this last year together with my groups and our partners.
This is an annual event to honour our retired football players who are suffering. Additionally, this year we did a prostate screening and a medical checkup.”
The event featured a thrilling football match between the Ashiedu Keteke Old Stars and Footy Legends GH XI, which ended in a 2-2 draw at Mantse Agbonaa Park.
