Foden affirms City’s unwavering confidence after narrow escape against Toffees

Phil Foden emphasized that Manchester City maintained unwavering belief in their ability to overturn a deficit and secure a victory against Everton.

The reigning champions successfully navigated another Premier League challenge, clinching a 3-1 win with second-half goals from Foden, Julian Alvarez, and Bernardo Silva, which nullified Jack Harrison’s early goal.

Fresh from their triumph at the Club World Cup, City demonstrated resilience by winning their second consecutive away game in which they conceded the opening goal. This victory propelled them back into the top four in the Premier League standings.

Foden, 23, told Amazon Prime: “I thought we played really well in the first half and it seems to have been the same story as previous games.

“The manager just said to believe in ourselves at half-time because we’re a top team.

“In the second half, wow. I think we blew them away with the way we played.

“I want to praise Everton because I think they’ve been doing really well recently and are a top side.

“They make it difficult. I’m really happy with the result. It’s a difficult place to come.”

City remains five points behind Liverpool in the title race, although they have a game in hand. Foden hinted that the Treble winners are edging closer to hitting their stride, especially with several key stars nearing their return from injury.

The England international added: “We have massive players to come back in with the likes of Erling [Haaland], Jeremy Doku and Kevin [De Bruyne] so three important players.

“When they come back, hopefully they make the team stronger. I’m looking forward to them coming back.”

Everton has now suffered defeat in their last two matches following a run of four consecutive victories. This recent downturn leaves them just a point above the relegation zone.

However, goalscorer Jack Harrison encouraged his Toffees teammates to maintain faith and stay positive despite the challenging situation.

The former City winger said: “Unfortunately today we messed up on a couple of things and that’s costly against the best sides so we just have to be aware of that going forward.

“There’s still a long season left. We can only control what we can do and keep going game by game.

“Everyone will be resting and recovering to prepare for the next game.”
