Former Ghanaian footballer Augustine Arhinful has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to clarify Stephen Appiah’s position on the Black Stars Management Committee.
Arhinful thinks it is not ideal to assign Appiah the role of handling player relations, as the head coach, who works with the players daily, is in a better position to manage them.
He pointed out that there seems to be an issue with player management, and having an independent person to mediate could be helpful.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Arhinful called on the GFA to clearly define Appiah’s responsibilities to prevent any misunderstandings.
“I think the GFA must explain further what they mean by player relations because the best relations are established when the coach interacts with the players daily to understand how they are doing,” Arhinful said.
“I believe they have noticed something within the team, so they need someone like Stephen Appiah to come on board and interact with the players in a brotherly way to align them with the GFA’s expectations,” he added.
This comes after the GFA announced that Appiah will be in charge of player relations as the Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee.
In his new role, the former Black Stars captain will work closely with the Committee Chairman, Dr. Randy Abbey, to offer the needed support.
