Black Meteors progress to face Gabon in AFCON U-23 qualifiers despite defeat in Togo

The Black Meteors have progressed to the next stage of the Africa U-23 qualifiers despite losing 1-0 to Togo in Lome.

Ghana qualified 5-2 on aggregate and will now face Gabon in the final round of qualifiers for Egypt 2019.

Togo forward Kossi Annika scored the only goal of the game in Lome, but that was not enough to see the Hawks to progress following their 5-1 thumping in Kumasi last Wednesday.

The Black Meteors finished the task off when they hosted their counterparts in Kumasi, with Salamanca striker Kwabena Owusu bagging a hat-trick.

The team is expected to return to Ghana on Sunday and coach Ibrahim will look forward to the next tie against Gabon.

The Black Meteors have not qualified for the competition since it’s inception in 2011.

The tournament serves as qualifiers for Tokyo 2020.
