Barcelona’s chances of signing Joshua Kimmich have been dealt a blow, as Bayern Munich is set to open discussions with the 29-year-old about extending his contract, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.
Kimmich has long been a target for Barcelona, but their financial difficulties have hindered their pursuit.
Despite this, there were rumours of a potential departure for Kimmich, especially after he voiced frustrations with Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel, and with Bayern’s season not going as expected, with the team likely to finish second in the league.
However, Bayern’s new sports manager, Max Eberl, is optimistic that the situation between Kimmich and the club will improve now that Tuchel’s departure has been confirmed at the end of the season.
Kimmich, whose contract runs until 2025, has also been linked with moves to Manchester City and Manchester United.
