Barcelona has officially appointed Hansi Flick as their new manager, marking the beginning of a new chapter at Camp Nou.
The former Bayern Munich boss inked a two-year contract with the Catalan club, solidifying his role in leading the team until 2026.
Flick finalized the deal at Barcelona’s club offices on Wednesday after engaging in several rounds of discussions with sporting director Deco and club president Joan Laporta.
According to BBC Sport, Barcelona began talks with Flick “at least two months ago,” and an agreement had been in place for some time.
This timeline indicates that the Blaugrana were already in contact with Flick when they convinced Xavi to extend his tenure at the club until 2025 in late April.
Barca have released an official statement confirming Flick’s appointment, which reads: “FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the German to become men’s first team football coach until 30 June 2026.
The new coach has signed a contract at the Club’s offices accompanied by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta; first vice president responsible for the sporting area, Rafa Yuste and the Club’s sporting director, Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco.
By bringing Hansi Flick as coach, FC Barcelona have chosen a man well known for his teams’ high pressing, intense and daring style of play which has brought him great success at club level and international level, winning pretty much all there is to win in the world of football.”
After achieving a historic treble with Bayern Munich in 2020, securing the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League titles, Hansi Flick’s subsequent tenure with the German national team fell short of expectations.
Their disappointing exit from the group stages of the 2022 World Cup marked a low point in Flick’s coaching career.
Now, tasked with revitalizing Barcelona, Flick has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing a “new structure” at the club.
His mandate includes steering Barcelona towards challenging Real Madrid for supremacy both in Spain and Europe.
Flick is set to engage in discussions with Deco regarding potential new signings, aiming to assemble a formidable squad capable of reclaiming Barcelona’s position at the pinnacle of football.
