In the course of his appearance on United Showbiz, former Ghanaian footballer John Paintsil attributed part of the decline in Ghanaian football to Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ exposé.
He contested the notion that the Ghana Football Association solely bears responsibility for the current state of football in the country.
Expressing uncertainty about the objectives of the SaveGhanaFootball demonstration held on Valentine’s Day, Paintsil questioned its purpose.
He emphasized that the state of football in the country relies on club owners, stressing that it is their duty to ensure their clubs excel and produce talented players deserving of national team recognition.
Reflecting on his own experience, he recalled playing for Berekum Arsenals in the lower division, yet his standout performance led to an invitation from the U-20 coach, Emmanuel Afranie, which he lived up to.
Addressing rumors of bribery for national team selection, he affirmed that he didn’t engage in such practices during his career and cannot speak for the current generation.
The former West Ham United defender went on to assert that the negative impact of the Anas Exposé cannot be overlooked when discussing the state of football, as it disrupted the sport and is partly responsible for its current condition.
