2022/23 MTN FA Cup has started well – Wilson Arthur

MTN FA Cup committee chairman Wilson Arthur has stated that the 2022/23 cup tournament is very competitive and going well as planned.

Accra Hearts of Oak is currently the reigning champions, the Phobians beat Bechem United 2-1 to win last year’s edition at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Caleb Amankwaa cancelled Emmanuel Avornyo’s opener before Daniel Afriyie Barnieh smashed home the winning goal for the Phobians. The win took Hearts of Oaks’ record to 12th FA Cup trophies in history.

According to Wilson Arthur, the Ghana Football Association has paid some money to the teams in advance which is helping them balance their finances.

“I can confirm 2022/23 MTN FA Cup has gone well for us 1) The FA made the team’s money, appearance fee and transport support those that travel in advance. This helped a lot previously we go and play then after a week we receive our money. But this time we got the money in advance the team that a struggling financially it helped them,” he said on Peace FM as monitored by footballghana.com

“Everything moved smoothly we have played 40 matches with six remaining we will play five tomorrow then play one last one. 2) The level of competition is very high we haven’t had any bad performances from match officials, referees. I am very happy about that because football it is not only the footballers that perform. Match officials performance can also affect teams just like if some players don’t play well it affect the team. The match officials performance affects the entire game we thank God we had a reasonably fair game,”
