#OccupyJolorbiHouse demo: Protestors provide police with evidence of assault

Netizens are presenting initial proof of assault against #OccupyJolorbiHouse demonstrators during their protest on September 21, 2023, marking the first day of their scheduled three-day event.

Following a police statement from September 22, the administration claimed there was no proof of the assault on protesters that had been widely reported in the media.

“It was established at the meeting that there is no evidence or reported case of assault against the demonstrators according to Police records. Therefore, anyone with evidence to the contrary should provide it for investigation.

“We would like to assure the public that the Police Service is dedicated to fostering a democratic environment where citizens’ rights are upheld while maintaining the security and stability of the nation,” the statement signed by Director Public Affairs of the Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi indicated.

Across various social media platforms, video footage depicting instances of police officers using force against individuals, particularly at the Accra Regional Command, is being disseminated as substantiating evidence of the perceived heavy-handedness that transpired subsequent to the unauthorized arrests of the protesters.

Contrary to the police’s assertion that there were no instances of assault, the organizers, Democracy Hub, have refuted any consensus on this matter with law enforcement. They have maintained that their interactions with the police primarily revolved around listening to the police’s account of the events and turmoil that unfolded on September 21, rather than reaching an agreement regarding the absence of assaults.
