Man fined for unlawfully entering Cape Coast Castle

A Cape Coast Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday handed down a fine of Gh¢300.00 to Emmanuel Quansah, a 22-year-old trader for unlawfully entering the Cape Coast Castle and harassing tourists.

The convict sneaked through the “door of no return” and entered the main castle and proceeded to the “male slave dungeon” where a tour was in session with an intent to harass tourists.

Quansah who sells around the castle was charged with unlawful entry and intention to commit crime to wit harassing tourists.

He pleaded guilty to the charges and prayed the court to temper justice with mercy but the court presided over by Mrs. Glory Mensah Bonsu convicted him on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Sergeant Christian Antwi said the complainant, Stephen Abedemah is a security man at Cape Coast Castle while the convict resides at King Aggrey street, a suburb of Cape Coast.

He said Quansah sells artifacts and crafts at the frontage of Castle but in recent times they have been series of theft cases and harassment of tourists thereby causing management to tighten security at the facility.

The Prosecution said on Thursday February 14, this year at about 1230 hours, a security man on his usual patrol duties on the premises of the castle, noticed that the convict had sneaked through the “door of no return ” and entered the castle.

He said with the help of another security man and workers the convict was arrested and handed over to the Police.

The Prosecution said Quansah admitted the offence in his caution statement and told the police that he was at the “male slave dungeon” to pray to the gods.
