Kumasi Mayor charges at bad traders

The Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, has expressed extreme anger over acts of lawlessness and indiscipline on the part of some residents of Kumasi.

Brimming with rage, he stated that it is totally unacceptable for anybody to flout the laws of the city by openly plying their trade right in the middle of the road.

He has consequently charged the joint security and Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Taskforce to apprehend anybody found trading in the road.

Osei Assibey issued the stern caution when he stormed the Central Business District (CBD) of Kumasi on Tuesday to monitor what was going on in the city.

The mayor and his team spotted several traders who had thrown caution to the wind, as they sold their wares ranging from clothes, shoes and food in the road.

The KMA chieftain, who seemed to have lost his cool at that moment, quickly ordered that all recalcitrant traders be moved away.

Aside from causing massive vehicular and human traffic in the city, he stated that trading in the streets has the potential of exposing the traders to gross danger.

Osei Assibey, who walked in the scorching sun on Tuesday for about three hours as he toured the CBD, stated that lawlessness would not be tolerated in the city.

“We will not wait for a car to knock down a trader as they sell their wares in the busy streets before we react”, the Kumasi Mayor told the traders, adding “the assembly will not relent on its efforts to move traders from the road”.

According to him, the KMA would make sure that traders and vehicles in the city would only operate in places that the assembly had sanctioned for that purpose.

Therefore, he appealed to residents of the city notably the traders and commercial car operators to support the assembly to achieve its objective.

The Kumasi Mayor started his walk through the city from the prisons roundabout through to Melcom, PZ, Boss FM, Hello FM area, Pampaso, just to mention but a few.
