Well-known Ghanaian comedian and actor, Kalybos, has made a surprising claim about the involvement of “juju” [voodoo] in his first car accident.
Reflecting on actress Portia Asare’s worries about the impact of juju in the Kumawood film industry, Kalybos revealed that his accident was more than just a coincidence.
The accident took place in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, while Kalybos was traveling to Kumasi for a project.
He described a troubling encounter with an aspiring Kumawood actor who confronted him about filming in Kumasi.
The actor was upset that actors from Accra were dominating roles in Kumasi, leaving local talent overlooked.
He challenged Kalybos to proceed with his work and see if he could escape any consequences.
Soon after this encounter, Kalybos was involved in an accident on the road to Kumasi, near Nkawkaw, while heading to a movie premiere.
The accident resulted in significant damage to his new Dodge Charger, but fortunately, Kalybos and the other passengers emerged unharmed.
Kalybos’ story has ignited conversations about the purported use of ‘juju’ in the Kumawood industry, adding weight to claims that such practices are creating discord and harm among actors.
