Health authorities in Kenya are currently probing an unidentified illness that has led to the hospitalisation of over 90 schoolgirls.
These students, attending Eregi Girls High School in the western part of the country, have experienced challenges with walking and have reported symptoms of knee pain.
A senior official from the Ministry of Education, who visited the school on Tuesday, reassured concerned parents that the situation was being managed effectively.
He also conveyed that regular classes would proceed as usual for the remaining students.
“The education department, the county government and the public health department are giving a commitment that the children will be treated,” said Jared Obiero, the regional director of education.
The sick students’ blood, urine, and stool samples were submitted to labs in Nairobi and Kisumu, two nearby cities.
Later on Wednesday, definitive findings regarding the illness’s cause are anticipated.
