Matabeleland: Brave mother’s intervention saves son from baboon attack

A Zimbabwean mother’s swift and fearless intervention prevented her son from being taken by a baboon in their residence at Matabeleland.

The mother, Petronella Moyo recounted the tense encounter to Voice of America (VOA), explaining that her 18-month-old was playing when the baboon attempted to snatch him, causing the child to cry out.

Acting decisively, Moyo witnessed the baboon scaling the house with her son in its mouth, leading her to fear the worst.

Undaunted, she pursued the primate and, remarkably, successfully reclaimed her child. Despite sustaining a few injuries, the son is expected to fully recover at Gwanda Provincial Hospital.

This incident underscores the potential threat of baboons, as while they are generally indifferent to humans, they can turn aggressive when provoked, given their sharp teeth and claws.
