The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, has called on local residents and municipal authorities to take responsibility for maintaining the newly opened Flower Pot Interchange to ensure it remains functional and visually appealing.
At the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Titus-Glover emphasised the need for cleanliness and order around the interchange, urging people to avoid setting up kiosks or containers that could spoil the area’s appearance and efficiency.
“We also share the responsibility to maintain and use these resources wisely. In this light, I would like to urge the municipal assemblies, particularly Ledzorkuku and Ayawaso West Wuogon, under whose jurisdiction this interchange falls, to ensure that this area is kept clean.
“Additionally, I don’t want to see kiosks and containers littered around. It will destroy the beauty that we are witnessing and commissioning today,” he stated.
The Flower Pot Interchange is a significant infrastructure development designed to ease traffic and improve connectivity in the Greater Accra Region. It will make travel smoother between important areas like Cantonments, Burma Camp, East Legon, Spintex, and Tema, enhancing the daily commute for residents.
Key features of the project include:
A redesigned Flower Pot roundabout with pedestrian paths, streetlights, road markings, and traffic signals.
A 802-meter dual carriageway viaduct with an asphalt surface.
A 140-meter ramp from Shiashie to Airport Hills.
An 80-meter ramp connecting the viaduct to the Tema-bound Motorway.
A new road through the old East Legon tunnel and a 200-meter link from Cantonments via the Giffard Road interchange.
