Ghastly accident kills 3 at Ofankor-Barrier, leaves several injured

At least three people have been killed in an accident at Ofankor-Barrier in Accra, Monday dawn after a tipper truck, an STC bus and a taxi were involved in a nasty collision.

Police is yet to give out the real cause of the accident, however an eyewitness report has it that, the tipper truck heading towards Accra from Nsawam hit the STC bus which was wrongly parked and was in haste to get back in route, occupying a large area of the road.

This he said made a section of the road narrow, causing a collision between the tipper truck and the STC bus and hence affecting a passenger lorry which was parked around where the STC was parked, smashing it beyond recognition.

A fireman from the Amasaman Fire Service department told tigpost.co that, they were informed about the incident at about 4.30am and were present at the scene within 5 minutes.

Although he commended first responders for trying to assist affected passengers, he advised that methods used in rescuing these victims could sometimes result in their death and so patience is to be exercised in such situations, so that the appropriate departments would attend to the situation.

The severely injured have since been taken to the hospital for treatment while he police begins preliminary investigations.
