Reports of an arson attack on a neighbourhood in Achimota, which houses people of a certain ethnic extraction and perceived NDC supporters, have emerged from the constituency of the Member of Parliament for Okaikoi North, Hon. Theresa Awuni, according to Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Governs Kwame Agbodza.
Mr Abgoza in a series of posts on X accompanied with pictures alleged that a massive fire has razed down an entire neighbourhood around Achimota, a suburb of Accra, where a certain ethnic group of people live.
“Reports coming from the Constituency of the Member of Parliament for Okaikoi North, Hon. Theresa Awuni, are quite disturbing and disheartening. It has been reported that suspected arsonists have set fire to an entire neighbourhood around Achimota that houses people of a certain ethnic extraction and perceived NDC supporters,” he wrote.
The fire, according to Hon. Agbodza is suspected to be an act of arson following “recent threats by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government to evict these same people from that settlement.”
The reported arson has resulted in the displacement of thousands of families, with many grappling with significant losses. While awaiting investigations into this alarming development, Mr Agbodza raises questions regarding the potential motivations behind this act.
“This situation has left thousands of families displaced as many continue to count their losses. While we await investigations into this worrying development, one cannot rule out suspected foul play or ill motive by the criminal and cowardly elements behind this act. Several lingering questions are begging for answers. Who are these arsonists and what is their motivation? Could this inferno be politically motivated to permanently displace and disenfranchise some voters in a crucial election year? Could this be another approach by forces within government to achieve their end-game of evicting the people?” he asked.
Agbodza’s tweet sparked mixed reactions from social media users, some of whom accused him of politicising the tragedy and spreading false rumours, while others supported his claims and condemned the government for its alleged involvement.

You only think of votes, but not the interest of the people. Shame on you.
@amapapa60
U are a member of parliament for Christ’s sake. Where are these speculations leading to? U are only beating war drums. When the unfortunate happens, u guys stand to benefit because u are placed on committees and take hefty allowances. It’s a shame.
@Tomtom_Arthur
So as for you politicians everything is about voting right?, even so called honourable members have reduced their senses to naught,hmmm.
@AshanteWarrior
Seems in one breath you are apportioning blame to a certain group and in the other breath you are asking who it could be. Confused much or it or just tribal bigotry…
@tawiah_tenhag
With all due respect sir, don’t politicize this. That’s just irresponsible of you. I’ll delete this tweet if I were you. Absolutely disrespectful to those affected.

Eight people were said to have been gruesomely killed during the last elections in the name of politics. It will therefore be wrong or simple propaganda or naivety for one to try to prevent one from reading politics into this act.
