GYE convention kicks off with entrepreneurial discussions

The Ghana Youth Entrepreneurship Convention has begun a two-day entrepreneurship workshop, which is targeted at providing Small and Medium scale Enterprises, a platform to bolster their financial appropriation and engineering skills; as well as provide a medium for networking.

The event which was tabled on the theme, “Bolstering Business Skills for the 21st Century Entrepreneur” served as a starting point for discussions on how the financial sector, government, youth and other key stakeholders can work together to strengthen SMEs as well as reduce youth unemployment in the country.

Day one of the two-day convention kicked off with a panel discussion spearheaded by successful young entrepreneurs and key stakeholders in the field of entrepreneurship from Ghana, who churned out interesting entrepreneurial experiences, ideas and pieces of advice amongst several other related topics.

Panelists included Kyerewa Attah-Krah who is the founder of April Rust and the Bold Circle, founder and managing director of Wanjo Africa, Yaganoma Baatuolkuu, CEO of Omanbapa Ghana ltd, Bernard Oduro Takyi and I saac Yeboah Filson, Founder of Play Africa, CEO of Orios group, John Armah and Renald Appiah, senior associate at Wangara Green Venture.

Speaking on the importance of the event, Executive Director for Youth Business Network Foundation, Solomon Adjei noted that they are working on some partnerships with government to secure appropriate policy framework for SMEs as well as bringing private investors on board.

Global coordinator of Child & Youth Finance International, Abdel Mandili added that the idea is to support young persons with entrepreneurial backgrounds who are drivers of growth in the country in order to curb youth unemployment.

“Our ultimate goal is to support young entrepreneurs because we see that young entrepreneurs are able to employ their peers so by supporting young entrepreneurship we believe we can eradicate youth unemployment….”

The convention is expected to end tomorrow with result driven trainings led by some top notch industry players from Africa Aurora Business Network, Deloitte Ghanaian.

The Ghana Youth Entrepreneurship Convention is organized with support from the Ministry of Business Development, the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP) and the National Youth Authority.
