Ghanaian doctor becomes first African to receive prestigious red diploma at Russia


A recent graduate in general medicine from Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University, Paulina Mefia Denteh, has achieved a historic milestone as the first Ghanaian, African, and female foreigner to be awarded the prestigious red diploma by the university.

Her accomplishment is a significant moment in the university’s history, underscoring Paulina’s unwavering determination, perseverance, and commitment to excellence.

In an Instagram post, Paulina expressed her gratitude and excitement, stating, “Receiving my red diploma from the Rector of Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University was a truly humbling experience. I am honoured to be the first female black student to achieve this milestone. This journey has been one of perseverance and dedication, and I am excited for what the future holds as I continue to make an impact in healthcare.”

Paulina’s academic journey began at Methodist Senior High School in the Eastern Region, where she demonstrated exceptional academic prowess despite limited science facilities. She played a pivotal role in establishing the school’s inaugural robotics team and was a key member of the National Science and Maths Quiz team, highlighting her early passion for science and technology.

According to the report, Paulina pursued higher education in Russia, embarking on a rigorous academic path at Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University.

Throughout her medical studies, she excelled academically and served as a teaching assistant from her fourth year until graduation, earning recognition for her contributions to the university community.

“Paulina’s groundbreaking achievement as the first Black and female foreigner to receive a red diploma in the university’s history is a source of immense pride and inspiration.

“Her story serves as a powerful reminder that determination, hard work, and resilience can overcome barriers and achieve new heights,” the report indicated.

In addition to her academic achievements, Paulina is spearheading an innovative project aimed at addressing long queues and limited access to doctors in Ghana. Her initiative involves developing an AI-powered platform that facilitates patient-doctor communication anytime, anywhere, potentially revolutionizing healthcare delivery locally and globally.

Paulina Mefia Denteh’s accomplishments reflect her dedication to enhancing healthcare and making a meaningful impact on the world.
