Tarkwa locals march, burn tyres over bad roads

Angry residents of Tarkwa, a mining town in the Western Region, on Wednesday, 26 September 2018 took to the streets to demonstrate over what they described as bad roads in the area.

The aggrieved residents numbering over hundred defied the presence of the Lands and Natural Resources Minister and his deputy, who are on a regional tour of mining communities in the country, to protest against the poor roads there.

Some of the protestors set bonfires on the roads with car tyres.

Others also used their cars to block the road to vehicular traffic.

This virtually brought business activity to a standstill in the area.

Some of the demonstrators who spoke to Class News said their action was intended to send a clear signal to government on the need to develop their community because they produce a chunk of mineral resources for the country.
