Hassan Ayariga, the founder of the All People’s Congress, has asserted that President Akufo-Addo’s failures in office have created the opportunity for former President John Dramani Mahama to seek a comeback.
During an interview on the Class Morning Show with Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang on Friday, April 26, 2024, Ayariga stated that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had dashed the hopes of Ghanaians before he was elected.
Reflecting on the country’s current state after eight years, Mr Ayariga questioned whether President Akufo-Addo’s performance surpassed that of his predecessor.
“People gave him so much hope, and when we were saying that he would not be the best candidate, Ghanaians didn’t believe us and gave President Nana Akufo-Addo the mandate.
“Eight years down the lane, where are we as a country? Can we say that President Akufo-Addo has performed better than the former president? The answer is still no, even though I’m not supporting the former president,” Ayariga added.
Ayariga suggested that Mahama’s decision to contest in the 2024 general elections was driven by Akufo-Addo‘s abysmal governance.
Regarding economic indicators such as inflation and the strength of the Cedi, Ayariga argued that Akufo-Addo’s administration falls short of Mahama’s performance.
