MP for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong and MP for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfrom, Sylvester Tetteh, will cement their reconciliation with a breakfast meeting today, February 14, 2024, which also marks Valentine’s day.
This was disclosed by MP for Effutu constituency and the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, at the reconciliation meeting held on Tuesday following the clash between the two MPs.
The two were seen in a viral video on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in a near scuffle in Parliament.
Background
There was a tense encounter between Members of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong and Daniel Sly Tetteh, which nearly escalated into a physical altercation, yesterday, February 13, 2024, in Parliament.
The incident reportedly stemmed from Tetteh’s attempt to exchange pleasantries with Agyapong, during which he referred to the Assin Central MP as ‘Presido,’ a nickname purportedly coined in jest following Agyapong’s defeat in the NPP presidential primaries.
According to witnesses, Agyapong became infuriated by Tetteh’s use of the nickname, causing a heated exchange between the two parliamentarians. The term ‘Presido’ is said to be a playful moniker used by some MPs to tease Agyapong, but it appears that the veteran politician did not take kindly to Tetteh’s use of it, particularly given their reported godfather-godson relationship.
During the confrontation, Mr Agyapong reportedly demanded an amount of money owed to him by Mr Tetteh. However, the situation was calmed by the Deputy Minority Leader, who promptly whisked Mr Tetteh out of the scene, diffusing the tension.
Later, videos of both MPs smoking the peace pipe at a meeting with the Deputy Minority Leader emerged. It was at this meeting that Mr Afenyo Markin announced the reconciliation party.
Other prominent Members of Parliament within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) including the Deputy Minority Leader are expected to be at the ‘reconciliation breakfast’.
