New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been spotted in a health facility in a photo making rounds on social media.
In the image, Chairman Wontumi is seen lying on a bed with an intravenous (IV) catheter inserted into one of his hands.
This photo comes after New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong (JFK), revealed to the Kumasi Traditional Council that the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi is unwell and currently on admission at a health facility.
JFK, who appeared before the chiefs and elders of the Ashanti Kingdom on Monday, disclosed this while reporting to the council about the whereabouts of Chairman Wontumi who has been summoned for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The General Secretary of the party however confessed that he had no doctor’s report to prove that Wontumi, was indeed sick.
JFK said that Chairman Wontumi called him on Sunday and claimed that he was at the hospital, on admission and that he was not well.
However, when JFK asked him to provide a doctor’s report, so that he could present it to the chiefs, Chairman Wontumi failed to do so.
The remarks have sparked outrage among the chiefs and the youth of the Ashanti Kingdom, who have demanded an apology from Chairman Wontumi and threatened to exile him from the Ashanti land if he did not apologise to the Asantehene and the golden stool.
Some elders in the council have also asked that the NPP suspends all its activities in Kumasi until Chairman Wontumi appears before the Council and clears the air.
