The former National Chairman and aspiring presidential candidate for the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, stated that he will promptly select his running mate if he is confirmed as the party’s presidential candidate.
Speaking on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning on July 8, Mornah emphasized that, unlike the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he will announce his running mate within a week of his confirmation.
“I have vested interest in becoming the president of Ghana and will be choosing and announcing my running mate exactly a week after the party confirms me as the presidential candidate, and that is my promise to you,” he said.
He noted that he is particularly attentive to the flagbearers and running mates of the NPP and NDC, stressing the importance of their ability to improve the country’s economic situation.
Mr Mornah mentioned that this focus reassures him that even if he does not win the election, the country will be governed by competent individuals.
“I’m interested in the personalities. In the unpalatable situation where I don’t become president, one of them should be able to transform our economy for the good.”
Discussing which team might be best suited to lead the country, he remarked that while the NPP’s running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as Napo, was ‘solid’ in opposition, he has shown ‘arrogance’ in power.
The NPP recently announced Dr. Opoku Prempeh as the running mate for its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, following extensive deliberations within the party’s executive ranks.
The party’s National Council unanimously approved Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s nomination as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate for the 2024 presidential election.
