Governance Lecturer at the Central University, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, has been adjudged as the Best Pig Farmer in the Central Region.
He was honoured at the 38th edition of the National Farmers’ Day today, Friday, December 2.
Crop farmers and animal farmers were celebrated for their immense contribution to the economy.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Accelerating Agricultural Development Through Value Addition.”
Pig farming, one of the lucrative businesses in Ghana, is the raising and breeding of domestic pigs as livestock for commercial use.
There is a high demand for pork locally and on the international market.
However, pig farming has become expensive to run as the cost of pig feed has become exorbitant.
Due to this, the price of pig products is expected to see an upward adjustment this Christmas.
