Chereponi clash: Yaa Naa calls for peace between Anufuls and Konkombas

The overlord of the Dagbon state, Yaa Naa Abukari II, has called for peace between Anufuls and the Konkombas in the Chereponi township in the North East Region.

His call comes after renewed clashes between the two ethnic groups, which have left three people dead, and left several others displaced after their homes were set ablaze.

In a statement from the Dagbon Traditional Council, Yaa Naa reminded the chiefs and the two District Chief Executives that education is the key to development and with “this uncalled for disturbances in the area all schools are temporarily closed down.”

The violence at Chereponi started last Friday when unknown assailants opened fire on Nawieku, a Chokosi community in the district, injuring one person.

The following day, 75 military personnel and 40 police officers were deployed to the area following reported reprisal attacks.

The reprisal attacks continued over the next few days as residents fled the area.

Citi News reports indicate that most villages within the district have been deserted.

Some students of the Chereponi Senior High School fled the school premises following clashes in the town.

Eight arrests have so far been made after the violence.

Police have also called on the leaders of both Anuful and Konkombas to talk to their people and call them to order.
