Ghana’s reggae dancehall artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr known popularly as Shatta Wale, has come to the defense of Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, who faced disqualification from the Guinness World Record (GWR) attempt for the longest singing marathon.
Following weeks of anticipation, Guinness World Records revealed the reasons behind the disqualification, citing inconsistencies in Asantewaa’s rest breaks.
The announcement triggered an online uproar as fans speculated about undisclosed details surrounding Asantewaa’s attempt.
Shatta Wale, known for his controversial stance, took to Facebook to express his support for the singer.
In a post, he conveyed admiration for Asantewaa’s efforts and criticised those who had been critical of her.
“Some Ghanaians won’t appreciate you, but Shatta Wale and his Shatta Movement fans say Ayekoo. God said I should tell you, you are the YAA ASANTEWAA OF OUR TIME. Go girl and forget some lazy Ghanaians,” Shatta Wale wrote.
Shatta Wale’s endorsement positions Asantewaa as a symbol of resilience, drawing parallels between her and the historical figure Yaa Asantewaa, known for her bravery in Ghana’s history.
