Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) has reinstated Amerado‘s “Kwaku Ananse” as a contender for the highly sought-after title of Most Popular Song of the Year.
This decision follows a one-week window for errors & omissions in the nominations process.
The announcement, made in a press release on Monday, April 15th, 2024, detailed the corrections made during the evaluation period.
Notably, the TGMA board acknowledged an oversight regarding the categorization of Amerado’s hit track, “Kwaku Ananse.”
Initially nominated for Best Highlife Song in its remix version, the board recognized the original rendition’s immense popularity and significance.
As a result, “Kwaku Ananse” is now a nominee for both Best Highlife Song and Most Popular Song of the Year categories.
The press release also highlighted another adjustment concerning the song “Lonely Road” by O’Kenneth & Xlim Kid.
Originally submitted as a featured work, the board rectified the entry to reflect it as a joint project by both artists.
Robert Klah, representing the 25th TGMA Board, expressed gratitude to the music community for actively participating in the Errors & Omissions window.
He reaffirmed the board’s dedication to fairness and transparency in the awards process, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of stakeholders over the past 25 years.
Previously, Ghanaian rapper Amerado had raised questions regarding the nomination process, specifically regarding why his popular song “Kwaku Ananse” was initially overlooked.
“Kwaku Ananse Remix – Amerado ft Fameye” secured a spot in the best collaboration category, while “The Hardest – Amerado” earned a nomination in the best rap performance category.
