Former cast member of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Porsha Williams has officially filed for divorce from Simon Guobadia over a year after their marriage.
The divorce papers were submitted on Thursday in Atlanta, as reported by court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
Contrary to online rumours surrounding Guobadia’s citizenship status, a source close to the situation informed PEOPLE that the divorce is not related to recent allegations involving Simon’s past.
The cause of their split is described as an “ongoing matter,” according to an insider.
The couple exchanged vows in November 2022 in a Nigerian traditional native law and custom ceremony, followed by an American ceremony in Atlanta.
Williams, 42, and Guobadia, 59, had announced their engagement in May 2021 after just one month of dating, expressing their love and happiness.
Despite the recent development in their personal lives, Williams has exciting professional news.
The reality star-turned-entrepreneur, who is also a mother to 4-year-old daughter Pilar from a previous relationship, is set to return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta for its upcoming sixteenth season after a two-year hiatus.
Additionally, she has signed an overall scripted deal with NBCUniversal, focusing on scripted project opportunities across the company’s broadcast and streaming properties.
In a statement, Williams expressed gratitude for the faith NBCUniversal has put in her and is looking forward to being back on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, showcasing her new world.
“I’m incredibly thankful for the vision and faith NBCUniversal has put in me to be a larger part of their family,” she said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to being back on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and showing the world my new world!”
Williams initially joined RHOA in its fifth season, leaving in season 13.
She and Guobadia later appeared together on the Real Housewives spinoff Porsha’s Family Matters in 2021.
Her most recent appearance was in the third season of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip, aired last year.
