Ghanaian musicians, including Nicholas Omane Acheampong and Great Ampong, have teamed up with passionate football enthusiasts to take to the streets in a ‘Save Ghana Football’ demonstration.
This protest, led by aggrieved journalists, aims to push for governance reforms in Ghana Football, triggered by the Black Stars’ disappointing performance at the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars’ early exit from the tournament prompted the dismissal of coach Chris Hughton and the dissolution of the technical team.
Despite these measures, some football enthusiasts argue that more significant steps are necessary to uplift the state of sports in the country.
To make their voices heard, they have organised a demonstration scheduled for February 14, 2024.
Choosing Valentine’s Day as the protest date, participants express their love for football and a strong desire to witness Ghana’s success in the field.
The leaders of the demonstration, Saddick Adams, Veronica Commey, and Patrick Osei Agyemang, have outlined plans for the protest route, which includes marching through Asylum Down, visiting the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and delivering a petition at the headquarters of the Ghana Football Association.
