My father was not in approval of my acting career – Chidi Mokeme

In an exclusive interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Nollywood sensation Chidi Mokeme bared his journey to fame, recounting the challenges he faced due to his father’s disapproval of his acting ambitions.

Before gracing the screen, Mokeme, initially a model, shared how he had to discreetly film scenes and engage in TV and modelling ads, often evading his father’s watchful eye.

The actor revealed the hurdles he overcame, asserting, “You couldn’t even say you want to be an actor before you will hear that he [my father] didn’t want you to be an actor.”

Mokeme delved into his early days as a model, engaging in commercial modelling, runways, TV commercials, and calendars.

This allowed him to pursue his passion without drawing too much attention from his disapproving father.

Mokeme reflected on the pivotal moment when pursuing pharmacy and later computer science proved unfulfilling.

Faced with the lack of computers in his computer science program, he decided to leave, driven by a deep-seated passion for the entertainment industry.

The breaking point came when he left home, not as a spontaneous decision but as a culmination of experiences marked by his father’s persistent disapproval.

The actor shared, “I started committing more so that my dad would say I should go back to where I am coming from.” Chidi Mokeme’s journey to stardom serves as a testament to his resilience in the face of familial opposition and his unyielding pursuit of a career in the entertainment space.”
