Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak, in his quest to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking hours, has encountered an extension in the cook-a-thon duration, now spanning seven days.
Initially slated from January 1 to January 05, totaling 120 hours over five days, the event’s organisers, as revealed days into the cook-a-thon, found it necessary to extend the cooking hours to exceed 144 hours.
The updated goal for Failatu is now set at an ambitious 240 hours, as reported by Joy News.
Mr Damba Naa, Manager of Failatu Abdul-Razak, said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tamale, “The idea is no longer five days. We are doing six to seven days.”
He stated that the team had to come up with such a decision to enable the chef to make a mark because a Ugandan lady had already cooked for 144 hours in the quest to break the existing record.
He said, “For us to be able to break the record and set any, we have to go beyond the 144 hours.”
Chef Dorcus Mirembe, popularly known as Mama D, undertook an official attempt to break the existing cook-a-thon record, successfully cooking for an impressive 144 hours.
Her culinary marathon began on December 23 and concluded on December 28, surpassing the 120-hour record held by Alan Fisher, the current record holder.
It is important to note that Mama D’s record is pending confirmation by Guinness World Records (GWR) officials.
